Toshiba launches lightweight mobile projector

Toshiba announced the release of its latest mobile projector, the TDP-SP1U. Weighing in at 4.8 lbs, the projector is among the lightest portable offerings in its class, and offers a native SVGA (800×600) resolution along with a 2,000:1 contrast ratio. Unlike typical projectors that make do with four colors, Toshiba’s DLP BrilliantColor technology uses six separate colors for a brighter and more vivid picture. Brightness is rated at 2,200 lumens, while the lamp life is rated at 3,000 hours in standard mode, or 4,000 in economy mode. Digital keystone correction is manually adjustable, while an RS232 port allows integration with AV network control systems. To keep use restricted, a password protection system is integrated into the TDP-SP1U. The 0.55-inch DLP panel and filter-free lens are capable of throwing up images that range from 23.9 to 300 inches diagonally. Video inputs include a VGA, RCA and S-Video connections.

The TDP-SP1U is currently available for purchase, and takes up the entry-level price point in Toshiba’s projector line-up at nearly $720.

Canon announced a new entry-level d-SLR: the EOS Rebel XS, which along with the recently introduced EOS Rebel XSi, replaces the popular Rebel XT and Rebel XTi cameras. The company has decided to rollout some of the advanced features in its XSi features, but left out others to reduce-costs and differentiate the new entry-level d-SLR. Sporting the company’s new Digic III processor and a new live view mode, Canon’s EOS Rebel XS has a 10.1 megapixel image sensor that is almost identical to that used in the Rebel XTi (short of the XSi’s 12.2 megapixels, but higher than the 8MP on the original XT); the new Rebel XS also features a 2.5-inch LCD, which is larger than the 1.8-inch on the XT but smaller than 3.0-inch LCD on the XSi).

Canon has not announced pricing and availability for the US, but the camera was officially announced in Japan. The US will likely see a debut next month and the camera is expected to ship later this summer at about the same price point as the current XTi (or about $200 less than the Rebel XSi).

iPhone 2 announced by Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs just announced the news everyone has been craving since before the first iPhone was even announced - the second generation iPhone will have 3G internet connectivity. My ears hurt with the ringing of everyone clapping at the news at WWDC.

In addition to that major feature, the phone will contain “a flush headphone jack”, with “solid metal buttons, the same gorgeous 3.5″ display, and camera”.

The back of the iPhone is no longer silver, it’s black, and “thinner at the edges, full plastic back”.

In addition to the aforementioned hardware specs, it also features inbuilt GPS, and an extended battery life, of 300 hours on standby, 3G talk time of five hours, and 5-6 hours of browsing. You can now watch video for seven hours, and listen to audio for 24 hours.
