gigabytem528-lg.jpg

The M528 will first appear in the Taiwan area in late July and should be priced in the middle of the UMPC range at an equivalent of $750; the device centers around the extremely energy-efficient 800MHz version of the Atom that should extend battery life even with additional performance and features versus the earlier A110 chip.

The handheld revolves around a 4.8-inch, 800×480 touchscreen but also has a slide-out keyboard and a directional pad. Internet access is supplied over Wi-Fi as well as 3G cellular providers using HSDPA, either of which lets the M528 capture photos or video with its 3-megapixel back camera or join video chats with a VGA front camera. A stock version of the Gigabyte computer comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of flash storage that support its custom version of Linux.

iPhone 2 announced by Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs just announced the news everyone has been craving since before the first iPhone was even announced - the second generation iPhone will have 3G internet connectivity. My ears hurt with the ringing of everyone clapping at the news at WWDC.

In addition to that major feature, the phone will contain “a flush headphone jack”, with “solid metal buttons, the same gorgeous 3.5″ display, and camera”.

The back of the iPhone is no longer silver, it’s black, and “thinner at the edges, full plastic back”.

In addition to the aforementioned hardware specs, it also features inbuilt GPS, and an extended battery life, of 300 hours on standby, 3G talk time of five hours, and 5-6 hours of browsing. You can now watch video for seven hours, and listen to audio for 24 hours.

Sling Media has decided to create an application that connects the Slingbox to Apple’s 3G iPhone. Dubbed as the SlingPlayer, it is an application that allows users to stream video directly from a Slingbox to a mobile device. FYI, the SlingPlayer Mobile is currently available on Windows Mobile, Palm OS, and Symbian phones, and for RIM’s BlackBerry. Unfortunately, there is no release date so far, however this application will be available by the end of this year or in early 2009.
