 teardrop-terrarium_48.jpg

Paula Hayes, a New York sculptor, painter and landscape designer is eying new possibilities in creative horticulture and home décor with her spectacular Teardrop Terrarium. She has given wind to the concept of plants inside glass as portable artworks. Her creations are set in hand-blown glass. Her delicate, hand-blown glass terrariums in organic shapes remind us of bubbles, teardrops, body parts, peanuts, and pears. The creations demand a lot of hard work as she takes care of each for about a year until plants are established and the work is ready for sale. Terrariums, originally invented by Nathaniel Ward, an English physician and botanist, have begun to show up online, in home furnishings catalogs, and in garden supply stores. The eye-catching terrariums by Paula Hayes are selling like hot cakes for between $8,000 and $22,000.

The limited edition collection will for the first time include chocolate brown suede on the back and dark chocolate brown leather on the front. The sophisticated combination of leather and suede is perfectly complimentedwith a base in solid bronze; hand polished to create a unique finish. The bronze base will darken in appearance, becoming more beautiful over time.

“We wanted to create something special to celebrate the golden anniversary of this legendary design created by one of the world’s most visionary architects, Arne Jacobsen” explains David Rosenkvist, Vice President
of Branding & Communication at Fritz Hansen.

Originally designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen Denmark, the Egg chair is today considered a global design icon. The design is more popular than ever before and can be seen around the world in famous and exclusive locations such as the National Art Center in Tokyo, high end hotels and private homes.

The partnership between Arne Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen began back in 1934. Arne Jacobsen approached Fritz Hansen due to their advanced manufacturing techniques, high quality and precision. Today Fritz Hansen continues to be the only manufacturer world wide to produce the original Egg chair design.
