Western Digital Korea announced the launch of its new 10,000 rpm hard drive ‘VelociRaptor’ in Korea market in mid of May.

The latest in Western Digital’s family of Raptor 10,000 rpm drives, the 300GB VelociRaptor doubles the capacity of WD’s previous-generation 150GB Raptor drive.

WD squeezed its 10,000 rpm drive into a 2.5-inch chassis. Although the drive itself measures only 2.5-inches, the VelociRaptor is designed for a 3.5-inch drive bay.

Heat generation remains a constant concern with hard drives, particularly when the drive is spinning as rapidly as it does on a 10,000 rpm model. WD tackles the issue head on by mounting the 2.5-inch VelociRaptor drive into a heat sink sled. The IcePack heat sink helps the VelociRaptor run cooler than the previous-generation Raptor.

WD plans to target the drive at gamers and PC enthusiasts first, even though the VelociRaptor has been designed for enterprise-class applications, too, and the company expects it to be adopted in enterprise settings as well.

Suggested price is 299(USD).

Samsung Electronics has recently unveiled ‘YP-S3′, an mp3 player true to the fundamental value that multimedia player concept is meant to provide. This is the successor to the K3, a million-seller last year thanks to its outstanding audio quality and aesthetically pleasing design.

The design and sound are even better this time around, and a video playback function has been included to expand utility. The listening experience, too, is improved by new features involving sight and touch.

The new S3 employs the upgraded version of Samsung’s proprietary Digital Natural Sound engine(DNSe 2.0). Users get outstanding sound quality along with twelve preset audio equalizers(EQs) such as Concert Hall, Studio, and Rock. Street Mode assists the listener in noisy environments, and the user can adjust the EQ, 3D Sound and Bass Boost to create a customized auditory effect.

For visual stimulation, the S3 comes in five different vivid colors(black, white, red, green and blue) and offers three beautiful screen saver patterns. An LED lighting effect is linked rhythmically to the on-screen images for greater listening enjoyment.

Users can play music, watch video clips, listen to and record FM radio broadcasts, view photographs, read text, and be awakened by an alarm. The suite of multimedia features includes five fun built-in games. Also set for launch is a speaker cradle(model: YA-SD210) that provides a new music listening environment that integrates the design concept.

The S3 comes in with storage capacities of 2, 4 or 8GB, and will be available in June worldwide.

Enjoy your digital music wirelesslyThe MEX-BT3600U uses Bluetooth A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) for high stereo quality digital audio streaming over a Bluetooth connection. This allows music stored on any A2DP enabled device to be enjoyed wirelessly through your vehicle’s speakers. An indicator on the head unit’s display confirms connection with a nearby Bluetooth device. Bluetooth AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) allows control of Bluetooth music source functions like track skip and pause directly from your car stereo.

Hands-free calling solutionThe elegantly styled MEX-BT3600U is ideal for anyone who needs to stay in touch on the road.

The in-dash head unit links wirelessly to the growing range of mobile phones from Sony Ericsson and other manufacturers that support Bluetooth connectivity. At the touch of a button it’s easy to accept hands-free calls while you’re driving, with no need for connecting cables, phone cradles or obtrusive car kits. Music is paused automatically when a call is accepted and music resumes when the call is ended.

The Sony MEX-BT3600U in-car CD tuner with Bluetooth connectivity and USB will be available throughout Europe from May 2008.
