 Samsung SP-A800B Now Available in the US

Samsung announced the nationwide availability of the SP-A800B projector, a premium projector that enhances the home theater experience by delivering film-like picture quality in full high-definition 1080p. The high-end projector maximizes the home theater connoisseur’s full HD viewing experience by leveraging advanced optics and a Texas Instruments 1080p DLP® chip to deliver a level of color and image quality that is traditionally found in professional studio-grade monitors. Setting the standard for consistently delivering the industry’s richest and most detailed picture, the A800B produces premium color accuracy.

“Basic technologies for HD projectors have drastically improved on superior performance capabilities and enhanced design functionality over the last several years. Samsung continues to maintain its performance standards within the marketplace by delivering the A800B,” said Christopher Franey, VP Marketing and Commercial Sales, Samsung Electronics America, Information Technology Division.

InFocus launches X10 1080p home theater projector

InFocus introduced the X10 Full HD 1080p projector in the UK. The X10 features a 16:9 native aspect ratio, and a contrast ratio of 2500:1, which can be boosted with a button push to 7500:1 via the company’s Active Iris in the lens. The X10’s 300W lamp gives it a 1,200 lumens brightness rating, and is rated for 2,000 hours of operation. The 1.2:1 fixed lens is able to create a clear image up to nearly 17 feet, or over 200 inches. Vertical Digital Keystone Correction is adjustable up to 13 degrees. The The DarkChip1 DLP chipset was sourced from Texas Instruments and the DLP color wheel is a 7-segment unit, calibrated to the D65K color accuracy standard.

Connection options include an HDMI 1.3 input, a proprietary M1-DA port that can use a DVI-D, VGA, HDMI and component video plug via an adapter, component video, RS-232 jack, wired remote and screen trigger.

The X10 will cost an equivalent of $2,165 in the UK although release dates have not been announced.

InFocus released the IN5100 series projector next month. The projector provides native WXGA resolution (XGA on the 5102/5106), brightness from 4,000 to 5,000 lumens, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and dual stereo speakers. The InFocus IN5100 Series Projector retails from a hefty $3,499 upwards.

The mini projector has a size of 76 x 102 x 54 mm and has also a 2W stereo speaker built in. The projector lamp is only 10 - 15 ANSI lumens though, you will have to watch the video/screen in a darker environment in order to get a clearer view. The company did not mention the availability date, they have demonstrated it in the Computex 2008 early this month.

Toshiba launches lightweight mobile projector

Toshiba announced the release of its latest mobile projector, the TDP-SP1U. Weighing in at 4.8 lbs, the projector is among the lightest portable offerings in its class, and offers a native SVGA (800×600) resolution along with a 2,000:1 contrast ratio. Unlike typical projectors that make do with four colors, Toshiba’s DLP BrilliantColor technology uses six separate colors for a brighter and more vivid picture. Brightness is rated at 2,200 lumens, while the lamp life is rated at 3,000 hours in standard mode, or 4,000 in economy mode. Digital keystone correction is manually adjustable, while an RS232 port allows integration with AV network control systems. To keep use restricted, a password protection system is integrated into the TDP-SP1U. The 0.55-inch DLP panel and filter-free lens are capable of throwing up images that range from 23.9 to 300 inches diagonally. Video inputs include a VGA, RCA and S-Video connections.

The TDP-SP1U is currently available for purchase, and takes up the entry-level price point in Toshiba’s projector line-up at nearly $720.
